A joint venture between the National Institute of Justice and The Pew Charitable Trusts will focus on site assessments of 16 drug prevention programs targeting inner-city youth.
Abstract
The primary goal of this effort is to investigate the range of prevention efforts on-going throughout the country and apply the scientific scrutiny necessary to find out what is "working" for this critical target population. The major components of this study include (1) primary emphasis on cocaine, heroin, marijuana, and PCP abuse; (2) knowledge of determinants of use and key psychosocial factors that promote or inhibit experimentation and abuse; (3) focus on primary or secondary prevention; and, (4) identification of the actual recipients of the intervention.
