This volume is intended to provide parents with information about the dangers of drug use, methods for preventing drug use, ways to determine if their child is using drugs, and the actions to take to end drug use.
Abstract
The authors urge parents to find out the facts about their child's drug use before the obvious signs of drug use appear. Thus, they should ask the child directly and, if drug use is denied, should search their child's room and the home for signs of drugs. Parents who find drugs should find a way to keep the child from substances and should find substitutes for drugs in the child's life. Thus, they must be willing to spend time with their child and to help the child find gratifying ways to use time. The discussion also focuses on the effects of specific drugs, the role of national and international policies, and a proposed drug policy for the United States. Tables, index, and appended list of symptoms of adolescent problems related to drug use, providers of inpatient treatment programs, sources of information, and 10 references.
