Abstract
Data for these categories of incidents are presented by minimum-security and medium-security correctional institutions and the Kentucky State Penitentiary. Statistics on deaths cover death from natural causes, suicide, homicide, and "other." Data on escapes address attempted escapes, completed escapes, and escape apprehensions. Assaults on staff cover aggravated assault, simple assault, and sexual assault. Inmate assaults encompass aggravated assault and sexual assault. "Dangerous" contraband refers to that whose use may endanger the safety or security of a detention facility or persons therein, including but not limited to dangerous instruments, any controlled substance, marijuana, escape device, or intoxicant. Medical incidents involving serious injury include attempted suicide, self-mutilation, and accidents. Data on furlough-related incidents, property damage, riots, and fire are encompassed under "miscellaneous." 18 tables.
