Abstract
The general crime statistics section of the report is based on data collected from the Montana Uniform Crime Reporting system and tabulates the statewide crime index and crime rate. Reported homicides, rapes, robberies, aggravated assaults, burglaries, larcenies, motor vehicle thefts, drug abuse violations, vandalism, and incidents of driving under the influence are charted and compared with 1988 figures. Additional tables present information on weapons use, property losses, county rankings, and major offenses reported by individual agencies. The activities of Montana Youth Courts and Juvenile Probation Offices are presented in terms of number of cases, number of referrals, number of offenses, and number of detentions. The report describes the Montana Drug Abuse Resistance Education (DARE) program, taught to elementary schoolchildren by law enforcement officers, and the state's Drug Task Forces. 3 appendixes.
