This book summarizes proceedings on international drug prevention and control at a conference held in April 14-16, 1989 in Bombay, India. Presentations dealt with social and legal manifestations, enforcement and prevention, law and drug abuse approaches to drug control, demand reduction, the role of the corporate sector, treatment of addiction, rehabilitation, and the formation of an international pressure group.
Abstract
Specific topics focused on drug law enforcement in the United States and forensic scientists' role in implementation of the Narcotic Drug and Psychotropic Substances Act. Abstracts are provided on presentations of drug abuse in Pakistan, UNFDAC's role in prevention and control, alcohol and drug dependence treatment and prevention in the Soviet Union, and prevention education strategies in England with specific focus on HIV infection. Talks on multidisciplinary approaches to control and implementation in India, holistic therapies, Jamaica drug abuse prevention program, drug situation in Thailand, in-depth study of the narcotics situation, rehabilitation of drug addicts, and social and professional attitudes toward drug addicts are also abstracted. A list of delegates at the conference is included.
