The Foundation of the King (FOK) is a transdenominational jail ministry whose mission is to provide for the religious needs of inmates in Seattle and King County, Washington.
Abstract
The ministry is conducted and supported by volunteer members of many different faiths and denominations. Although religious services represent an important part of the ministry, FOK programs have a much larger scope. The services provided also include counseling, Bible studies, correspondence study programs, religious material distribution, counseling for the inmate's family, followup ministry, career guidance, clergy visitation, and assistance for alcohol and drug abuse. The primary FOK mission is to meet the religious needs of inmates in Seattle correctional facilities. The program also encourages community awareness to afford inmates sufficient support and assistance in meeting their needs. This is especially true after the inmate has returned to society, to prevent recidivism. Volunteers are trained properly, and clearance and security checks for volunteers are accomplished in accordance with jail guidelines. The mission statement of FOK is outlined along with its specific goals and objectives.
