This Annual Statistical Report (July 1, 1990, through June 30, 1991) of the Missouri Division of Youth Services provides statistics on the number and characteristics of the youth served.
Abstract
Summary statewide data indicate that nearly 9 out of 10 youth committed to institutions were boys, and over one-half of the youth committed were white. Forty-four percent of those committed had a history of drug use. Approximately 1 out of 4 youth were committed for crimes against a person. The committed youth averaged the ninth grade level in school. Approximately 1 out of 10 youth were recommitted. The average age of committed youth was 15.2 years. Two out of three youth committed were from a metropolitan area. One-half of prior adjudications were for property offenses; 37 percent were referred to a juvenile court before their 13th birthday. Detailed data show commitments by region, by age and grade, by race, and by type of offense. Data also cover risk assessment and discharges. Appendixes provide statistics on reasons for commitment, commitments by circuit and county, facility use, and commitments by circuit.
