This report describes the structure and activities of the Office of Juvenile Justice and Delinquency Prevention, the programs and projects operated with its funding during 1991, and State-by-State efforts and programs to prevent and control juvenile delinquency.
Abstract
Programs receiving special emphasis and training efforts included youth violence, drug abuse, juvenile gangs, illiteracy and educational deficits, community resources and programs to address juvenile delinquency, juvenile processing, juvenile detention, and juvenile corrections. Progress in each State regarding the removal of juveniles from adult jails, the separation of juveniles and adults in correctional facilities, and other State programs are also described. Further sections discuss recent research findings regarding juvenile delinquency causes, research on the overrepresentation of minorities in the juvenile justice system, and intergovernmental cooperation and the efforts of the National Center for Missing and Exploited Children.
