This application kit solicits applications for programs to implement the Edward Byrne Memorial State and Local Law Enforcement Assistance Discretionary Grant Program, which is designed to develop the range of effective programs, practices, and strategies that can enhance the capability of State and local criminal justice practitioners to control drugs and violent crime and to improve the criminal justice system.
Abstract
Program goals are achieved through demonstration programs, evaluations of new programs and strategies, and the provision of training and technical assistance. The programs described in this application kit are competitive. Awards will be made to organizations and agencies that offer the greatest potential for achieving the objectives outlined in the program descriptions. Following a description of application and administrative requirements, the purpose, background, goals, objectives, program design, program strategy, eligibility requirements, selection criteria, award period, award amount, due date, and contact information are presented for specific programs. The Regional Drug Prosecution Program is intended to demonstrate the effectiveness of regional drug prosecution units that operate under the combined authority of several local elected prosecutors. The Financial Investigations and Money Laundering Prosecution Demonstration Program intends to demonstrate a prototype State and local financial investigations and money laundering prosecution unit. Three parts of the Corrections Options Grant Program are intended to improve correctional options within existing correctional systems. Other programs for which applications are solicited are a Comprehensive Gang Initiative, a Statewide Intelligence Systems Program, and a Community-Oriented Policing Program.
