AN OVERVIEW OF ISRAELI SOCIETY IS PROVIDED, AND DELINQUENCY CAUSES AND PROBLEMS, THE ROLE OF THE COURT, SPECIALIZED COMMUNITY SERVICES, AND TREATMENT AND CORRECTION ARE DISCUSSED.
Abstract
A SOCIOLOGICAL BACKGROUND, DEALING WITH SUCH FACTORS AS MASSIVE IMMIGRATION, THE PRESSURES OF WESTERN SOCIETY AND LOOSENING OF FAMILY TIES IS GIVEN. THE AUTHOR PRESENTS THE VARIOUS CAUSES AND TYPES OF DELINQUENCY AMONG JEWISH AND ARAB YOUTH IN ISRAEL, AND FOCUSES ON SUCH PROBLEMS AS DRUG ABUSE, SEX OFFENSES, AND THE PROTECTION OF CHILDREN. STATISTICS ON JUVENILE DELINQUENCY FOR BOTH JEWISH AND ARAB YOUTH ARE PROVIDED. THE JUVENILE COURT IN ACTION, THERAPEUTIC USES OF THE COURT SETTING, AND METHODS OF DETENTION AND EXAMINATION OF THE OFFENDERS ARE EXPLORED. FINALLY, THE AUTHOR EXAMINES SPECIALIZED COMMUNITY SERVICES SUCH AS PROBATION, EDUCATIONAL FACILITIES, THE JUVENILE POLICE, AND THE PRISONS.
