This report presents statistical data describing changes in the prison populations in California correctional institutions, including admissions and departures from individual facilities, during calendar year 1991.
Abstract
During the year 38,253 new felon arrivals and 2,191 civil drug addict admissions were received from court. In addition, 2,453 county diagnostic cases were received, and 41,334 felon parole violators returned to custody and returned pending revocation. Other arrivals included 16,010 parole violators returned with a new term from court, 496 escape returns, and 2,504 outpatients returned to custody to finish a term or with a new civil commitment. Departures included 89,124 felon inmates released to parole, 2,364 county diagnostic cases discharged, 934 escapes, 133 inmate deaths, and 4,060 civil narcotic addicts released to outpatient status. Figures and tables
