Friends of the Fairfax County (VA) Victim Assistance Network is a nonprofit organization dedicated to serving the needs of victims of sexual assault and domestic violence.
Abstract
This issue of the network's semiannual newsletter contains articles on stalking behavior and on Virginia's new antistalking law that subjects convicted stalkers to imprisonment for up to 6 months and a fine of up to $1,000. The importance of reporting even suspected stalking to police is emphasized because police must document stalking patterns in order to intervene preferably before an attack occurs. A column discusses the availability of Spanish- speaking, signing, and male counselors, and various types of support for victims. The newsletter also features relevant State political news, volunteer news, a volunteer opportunities statement, solicitations for contributions, and a poem that illustrates the reality that leaving an abusive relationship is not always easy.
