The juvenile court is taking the lead role. The program appears to be comprehensive, well-organized, and well- funded. Its components are early identification of truants, court hearings at selected schools with high truancy rates, parental notification, and use of school and community resources. The responsibilities of the Truancy Programme Advisory Committee and Truancy Programme Case Manager (both of which would be established by each school in the jurisdiction), the visiting teacher, and juvenile court personnel are explained--as are procedures for keeping school attendance records; notifying truancy court; filing truancy and failure-to-send complaints; conducting truancy court hearings in the schools; and evaluating the program.
