This facilitator's guide and participant's manual are designed to be used with a five-part workshop on developing drug- free schools.
Abstract
The five sessions include a examination of tobacco, alcohol, and other drug use by young people and the risk and protective factors that hold promise in prevention efforts; the Social Development Strategy which emphasizes healthy beliefs and clear standards; ways to use these strategies to provide young people with clear messages about drug use; ways of ascertaining the effect of prevention efforts and implementing various interventions; and tips on maintaining bonds between adolescents and youth workers. The facilitator's guide includes promotional materials, incentives to increase attendance, logistics for facilitating sessions, instructions on conducting the training as a course for credit, evaluation results from the original training, and information on how to conduct an evaluation. The participant's workbook consists of course and session maps, lecture summaries, activity worksheets, resource lists, and additional study questions.
