This issue of the Crime Trend Series provides a statistical account of drug arrests in Hawaii from 1980 to 1991.
Abstract
Tables show arrestee demographic data as associated with possession, sales and manufacture, and total drug arrests in 1980 and 1991; a graph shows drug abuse arrest data for each year of the period. In 1991, there were 3,296 drug abuse arrests--a 35-percent increase since 1980, and a 4-percent decrease since 1990. The trend has been a decrease since a peak at 5,132 in 1985. The proportion that involve sales or manufacture has more than doubled since 1985. In 1991, 64 percent of the sales and manufacturing arrests--a 394-percent increase since 1980, and a 1-percent increase since 1990. In 1980, females accounted for 16 percent of all arrestees; in 1991, 24.6 percent. In 1980, juveniles accounted for 18 percent of all arrestees; in 1991, 12 percent. Graph, 2 tables
