Abstract
The text describes the daily operation of the Court and its various offices, alternative methods of admission to the Court's Bar, and the availability of Supreme Court briefs and records in depositories and libraries. Practical guidelines are provided on whether a petition for certiorari should be filed in a particular case, the most effective ways of preparing petitions for certiorari and briefs in opposition, jurisdictional statements and motions to dismiss or affirm, briefs on the merits, and various other motions and documents. In addition, techniques for persuasive oral argumentation are provided, based on the experiences of judges and skilled advocates. Other sections describe recent changes such as the 1988 repeal by Congress of the statutory provision allowing direct appeals to the Supreme Court, the 1990 revision of the Court's rules, and precedents dealing with procedures and practices before the Court. Forms, table of cases, subject and rules indexes, footnotes, and appended rules, guidelines, and related information
