This document presents the curriculum guidelines, developed by California law enforcement trainers and criminal justice educators in cooperation with the California Commission on Peace Officer Standards and Training, for use in training police officers in the handling of situations involving hazardous materials.
Abstract
The first section presents information regarding the recognition of indicators of a situation involving hazardous materials, including unknown substances; a spill of a dangerous substance; a fire; an explosion; or a container, vehicle, or building marked by a placard. Additional sections details precautions to use in the presence of hazardous materials and the methods of identifying hazardous materials. Four exercises for use by trainees and 4 references
