This conference, scheduled to be held in Accra, Ghana, in April 1994, is the first conference to be held in the country on child abuse and neglect.
Abstract
The conference agenda will focus on two broad themes: (1) violence and the rights of children; and (2) psychosocially vulnerable infants, children, and adolescents. Papers have been elicited on such topics as individual trauma, national and regional violence, physical and sexual abuse, child labor and exploitation, national and international responsibilities for protecting children, the influence of changing social values on children, homeless and street children, and children with AIDS and other chronic illnesses. Conference exhibits are also planned to highlight community-based programs serving children and their families, national organizations in Ghana concerned with child abuse and neglect, and vendors to help service providers in their work.
