The National Center for Missing and Exploited Children (NCMEC) reports on its services, advocacy activities, and funding for 1991 to 1992.
Abstract
The section on services explains the process by which missing or exploited children are handled by a case manager from the first hotline call to helping a runaway child find shelter or publishing the photographs and tracking the sightings of missing children. The section on advocacy and education surveys NCMEC's numerous educational activities such as teaching police officers how to investigate an abduction case, instructing teachers how to recognize child abuse, or helping parents choose the right daycare center. NCMEC's networking and outreach efforts include working with its branch offices, law enforcement agencies, state clearinghouses for missing and exploited children, the FBI, the U.S. Customs Service, and independent nonprofit organizations. The section on funding pays tribute to the numerous individuals and companies who donate time, money, or merchandise in support of the agency. A statement of revenues, expenses, and fund balance as of December 31, 1991, is also included. The final section explains how contributions are used.
