This is a compendium of laws that affect children and youth, enacted by the 50 States and the District of Columbia in the 1993 legislative session.
Abstract
Legislation is summarized under 11 major topic areas and 60 subtopics. The major topic areas are child abuse and neglect, child care/early childhood education, child health, child mental health, child welfare, family law, juvenile justice, public assistance, substance abuse, and youth at risk. For each of these major topics, legislation from each State is summarized under subtopics pertinent to the major topic. For child abuse and neglect, for example, each State's legislation is summarized for the subtopics of background checks/screening, court procedures, definitions/offenses/penalties, financing, legal representation, organization/oversight, prevention/treatment/training, registries and records, reporting/investigations, sexual abuse and exploitation, and victim and witness protection. For juvenile justice, the subtopics are administration/organization, disposition/penalties/offenses, financing, institutions/services/prevention, jurisdiction/waivers, procedures, and records.
