Drug and legal definitions of the law are outlined that include the promotion, cultivation, manufacture, trafficking, and criminal possession of illegal drugs in Spain. First- and second-degree offenses are detailed; sentencing depends on who consumed the drugs, who trafficked the drugs, where the drugs were sold, and which drug was sold. Under Spanish law, drug trafficking is seen as the intentional committing of a crime. The setting of fines, penalties, and treatment offered are explained, including the new Article 93 on drug treatment as an alternative, conditional sentence for drug addicts. Spanish laws for laundering of drug money are also discussed as is the acceptability of any international prosecutions for any acts covered by the Spanish laws. Drug trafficking under the Spanish contraband crime law is also reviewed.
