This report describes the programs and activities of the National Council on Crime and Delinquency (NCCD), with emphasis on its efforts during 1992.
Abstract
One study conducted during 1992 focused on developing a comprehensive case management system to restructure Michigan's Child Protective Services to reduce incidents of child abuse and neglect. Other studies and projects focused on assessing the needs of children of incarcerated mothers, hate crime prevention in public schools, juvenile justice reform in Indiana, and the overrepresentation of minority youth in incarcerated juvenile populations. The Council also initiated a volunteer program in which college students serve as mentors to troubled youths and developed and installed an inmate population projection model to provide Philadelphia with accurate estimates of future population growth based on alternative policy assumptions. Further projects focused on sentencing, offender classification systems, correctional staffing, and information systems. The Council's Board of Directors has also adopted policy statements on juvenile justice, drugs, sentencing, prisons, release decisions, and research.
