This guide provides instruction in how to organize and implement Child Identification/Safety Day, whose purpose is to provide a free, individual child safety kit to children and their families.
Abstract
The kit consists of a folder that contains the child's pertinent personal information and fingerprints, a photograph or video, dental impression, and height and weight. These materials are returned to the family; the family can update and offer this information to police in the event that the child should ever be missing. The task of organizing this event is delegated to a committee within the Missing and Exploited Children Comprehensive Action Program (M/CAP). A section on organization contains a description of media assistance/coverage and materials that will be required. Materials include information folders and envelopes, fingerprint cards and pads, film and cameras, videotapes, dental impression styrofoam, height chart and weight scale, and banners. The implementation section discusses the use of donations and volunteers to administer and execute the program plan. Benefits of the program are that families have a free, comprehensive, updated folder on their child that can be easily accessed in an emergency. The M/CAP Team can get its name and purpose before the community, and M/CAP Team member agencies can reach a larger population to inform the community of the various services provided by the individual agencies. Appended sample press release, sample fliers, sample information folder, sample school schematic, sample mall schematic, and sample certificate
