A discussion of definitions of crime focuses on the government's unresponsiveness to major social problems that result in social harms; these include the inequitable distribution of wealth, homelessness, poverty, unemployment, underemployment, hunger, racism, sexism, and industrial accidents. Additional papers challenge policies directed against pregnant women who use crack, restricting women's access to abortion, and dealing with assault against women. They also criticize the government's slow response to hate crimes, its inadequate attention to occupational safety, and the crimes of both omission and commission committed by the capitalist government.
