One paper examines State responses to child maltreatment, particularly child abuse reporting laws and special courtroom procedures. Limits of State approaches to child maltreatment are discussed, as well as the potential for an increased Federal role in establishing child abuse prevention policies. Subsequent papers address legislation requiring professionals to report suspected child abuse, the role of mental health professionals in protecting children, and the use of anatomically detailed dolls to validate child sexual abuse allegations. Another paper investigates stereotypes of child sexual abusers in terms of gender, gender role identity, emotional needs, and sexual needs. Subsequent papers discuss treatment for sexual abuse survivors, clinical techniques in the treatment of juvenile sex offenders, recidivism among adolescent perpetrators of sexual assault against children, outpatient treatment of child molesters, psychosocial antecedents of chronic delinquency, juvenile diversion, cognitive development of young offenders, and a change model based on resocialization.
