Abstract
The first section profiled children who were abducted, ran away, or otherwise went missing in Iowa over the past 20 years. Chapter 694 Code of Iowa pertains to the definition of a missing person, procedures regarding the filing of a missing person report, and the duties and responsibilities relating to the Iowa Missing Person Information Clearinghouse operated by the Department of Public Safety. Statistics on missing persons document the yearly totals in Iowa, comparisons of adult and juvenile missing persons, and types of disappearances, as well as clearance rates. The curriculum describes laws regarding family rights and parental kidnapping, school enrollment information, and child custody. Activities of the National Center for Missing and Exploited Children are outlined. Steps in investigating various types of missing person cases are also covered.
