The Criminal Identification Act contains provisions on criminal investigation, the statewide warrant system, the maintenance of information by correctional institutions, assistance to law enforcement agencies, restrictions on the use of criminal records, and criminal background checks on school personnel. The Criminal Identification Act also specifies procedures for expunging and sealing criminal records and contains provisions on missing children and sex offenders and on criminal background checks of school personnel. The Government Records Access and Management Act recognizes two fundamental rights: right of privacy in relation to personal data gathered by government entities; and public right of access to certain information. This act covers access to private, confidential, and protected records and identifies records that must be disclosed to the public. Legislation also deals with Utah's State Records Committee and record accuracy.
