Abstract
Brief reports are presented on Bangladesh, Bolivia, China, Ethiopia, Fiji, Japan, Republic of Korea, Malaysia, Nepal, Pakistan, Papua New Guinea, The Philippines, Singapore, Sri Lanka, Thailand, and Venezuela. Crime and offense data focus on crimes against persons, crimes against property, economic crimes, sexual crimes, environmental crimes, drug-related offenses, illegal immigration, and juvenile delinquency. One section of this report focuses on conditions that facilitate urban crimes and juvenile delinquency. Factors identified are overcrowding caused by migration from rural areas, changes in socioeconomic structures, psychological problems, physical setting, and other special features. A discussion of countermeasures to prevent urban crime and juvenile delinquency focus on the "five pillars of the criminal justice system": police, prosecution, court, corrections, and the community. Other countermeasures discussed are criminal laws, crime prevention through education and environmental design, international cooperation, the mass media, social and economic development, and decentralization of urban resources. 15 references
