The 13th Asian and Pacific Conference of Correctional Administrators was held in Hong Kong in November 1993 and was attended by senior representatives from 19 countries and territories in the Asian and Pacific region.
Abstract
Agenda items at the conference encompassed the rights and treatment of unconvicted prisoners, the effective treatment of different offender types, public awareness of and support for corrections, and international cooperation in corrections. The following agenda items for future conferences were proposed: balance between prisoner rights and discipline, imprisonment as a deterrent to crime, drug abuse treatment, staff development and training, adult offender aftercare and supervision, indigenous minorities, female offenders, deaths in custody, handling intractable offenders, application of technology to corrections, sentencing, foreign prisoners, prison management, and community corrections.
