The book centers around the Comprehensive Strategy for Serious, Violent, and Chronic Juvenile Offenders developed in 1993 by the Office of Juvenile Justice and Delinquency Prevention (OJJDP). This strategy is based on an indepth review of research, statistical trends, and program evaluations regarding juvenile crime and delinquency. The first chapter reviews the OJJDP strategy, while the second chapter offers a balanced and comprehensive approach to preventing, treating, and controlling serious, violent, and chronic juvenile delinquency. The next four chapters present the results of a nationwide review, guided by the OJJDP strategy, to identify effective and promising programs and juvenile justice system tools for preventing and reducing dangerous juvenile offending.
