The Westport, Massachusetts, Police Department sponsors Project KidCare events that involve both police officers and parents to find missing children.
Abstract
Project KidCare is a national program developed by Polaroid Corporation and the National Center for Missing and Exploited Children. Project KidCare events in Westport include the issuance of free photo identification documents and other child safety programs. Photo identification documents are especially useful in child investigations, whereas fingerprints are useful only for forensic purposes after a child is dead. Child safety programs include advice to children on how to react when they are home alone, are in an emergency situation, encounter strangers, are touched inappropriately, get lost, or take a school bus. The Westport Police Department sponsors activities to educate families about child safety and strives to improve police relations with the community. The organization of Project KidCare events in Westport has been facilitated by a comprehensive kit that is made available by the national program. 1 photograph
