EVALUATES PROGRAM IN TERMS OF SERVING AS A LEARNING CENTER WITH EMPHASIS ON FACILITIES AND RESOURCES, PROVIDING IN-SERVICE TRAINING FOR WORKERS, AND PROGRAMS RELATIVE TO ORGANIZATIONAL OBJECTIVES.
Abstract
A FOURTH GOAL OF THE PROGRAM IS TO OFFER AND ENCOURAGE NEW MODELS, ALTERNATIVE CONCEPTS, INNOVATIONS, AND FRESH APPROACHES TO PROBLEMS WITHIN THE JUVENILE SYSTEM. THERE ARE SEVEN MAJOR AREAS OF TRAINING OFFERED BY THE CENTER - COMMUNICATION, DRUGS, GROUPS, I-LEVEL, LAW MANAGEMENT TRAINING, AND TREATMENT. THE CENTER PROVIDES TRAINING FOR COLORADO YOUTH WORKERS EMPLOYED WITH THE DIVISION OF YOUTH SERVICES. THE EVALUATION CRITERION SELECTED FOR THIS PROJECT WAS THE IMPACTS OF TRAINING ON ON-THE-JOB DECISIONS. DATA WERE COLLECTED THROUGH INTERVIEWS WITH TRAINEES. WITH RESPECT TO THE GENERAL EFFECTIVENESS OF TRAINING CENTER PROGRAMS, THE TRAINING CENTER ACCOUNTS FOR APPROXIMATELY ONE-SIXTEENTH OF THE INFLUENCE OF ON-THE-JOB DECISIONS. THE MOST DRAMATIC IMPACT OF TRAINING SEEMS TO BE IN THE COUNSELING/ TREATMENT AREA. RECOMMENDATIONS INCLUDE THAT THE TRAINING CENTER COULD SUBSTANTIALLY IMPROVE ITS OFFERINGS BY CONDUCTING A COURSE OR COURSES DIRECTED TOWARD ASSISTING YOUTH SERVICE WORKERS TO RESOLVE IMMEDIATE ACTION SITUATIONS.
