The POMC has approximately 300 chapters and contact persons assisting over 100,000 members. In addition to supporting homicide survivors, the POMC strives to influence the political arena and to educate professionals and society at large about the problems and needs of homicide survivors. The POMC encourages programs such as Parole Block, Second Opinion Services (SOS), and Murder Is Not Entertainment (MINE). The Parole Block Program assists families in their efforts to prevent the early release of murderers. The SOS program helps homicide survivors who have concerns about or need information on their cases. The POMC strongly opposes murder as a form of entertainment, and the MINE program focuses on education, crime prevention, and changing social attitudes toward violence. The POMC has developed a "Murder Wall" project that travels around the United States to honor the memories of those who have been murdered. Additional activities and services of the POMC include assistance, media coverage, presentations, conferences, campaigns, and publications.
