This interim report presents information and data on an evaluation of Washington State's Youth Violence Prevention and Intervention Program (YVPIP), which is intended to counter the rising problem of violence by youth through support for local communities in the identification of the primary risk factors for youth violence and the design of services to counter these risk factors or strengthen protective factors.
Abstract
The evaluation uses a two-stage strategy that consists of both qualitative and quantitative components. The first stage is primarily qualitative and is the subject of this report. It assesses three program aspects that research indicates are crucial to the success of prevention programs. It also lays the foundation for the compilation of quantitative outcome data. Research suggests that successful prevention programs are typically operationally consistent, multifaceted, and community- based. This report presents information and data on each of these performance measures for each of the 14 projects. Data encompass client and project activity. The project summaries show that all of the 14 projects provide services that can have an impact on violence in their communities. Recommendations are offered for improving the projects in each of the three performance areas examined. 11 notes and extensive tabular data
