The Anti-Drug Abuse Act of 1988, Public Law 100-690, was enacted to prevent the manufacture, distribution, and use of illegal drugs.
Abstract
The Act contains 10 titles that deal with the coordination of national drug policy, treatment and prevention programs, drug education programs, international drug control, user accountability, antidrug abuse amendments, death penalty and other criminal and law enforcement matters, Federal alcohol administration, miscellaneous provisions, and supplemental appropriations. The Act establishes the Office of National Drug Control Policy and mandates the creation of a National Drug Control Program. The Act contains provisions on health and mental health services, employee assistance programs, drug-free schools, drug abuse education for students and teachers, programs for runaway and homeless youth, drug legalization, drug abuse in public housing, Federal grants to State and local jurisdictions for drug law enforcement, money laundering, drug law enforcement for specific drug types, drug offender sentencing, and juvenile drug abuse prevention.
