The goals of the grant program are to implement mandatory arrest and pro-arrest programs, develop policies and training programs to improve case tracking, centralize and coordinate responsibility for domestic violence cases, coordinate computer tracking systems, strengthen legal advocacy service programs for victims, and educate judges and others responsible for judicial handling of domestic violence cases. The award period for the $28 million in grants is 18 months. Priority will be given to applicants that do not currently provide for centralized handling of domestic violence cases by police, prosecutors, and courts and that demonstrate a commitment to strong enforcement of laws and prosecution of cases.
