This document contains statistics on the numbers and types of inmate incidents in California Department of Corrections institutions and camps during calendar year 1994.
Abstract
There were 6,974 inmate incidents in 1994. Assaults accounted for 4,023, assaults with a weapon numbered 1,837. Drug incidents totaled 1,336 (793 marijuana, 319 opiates, and 224 other drugs). Thirteen male inmates were fatally assaulted, two were stabbed to death. There were 1,603 assaults on staff, 710 involving the use of weapons by inmates. There are eight tables further accounting for inmate incidents, including suicide and attempted suicide: (1) Type of Inmate Incidents, Rate Per 100 Average Daily Institution Population (ADP) CY85-94; (2) Number and Type of Inmate Incidents by Institution; (3) Number of Assaults on Inmates, Staff and Visitors Rate Per 100 ADP By Institution CY85-94; (4) Assaults on Staff by Institution CY85-94; (5) Assaults on Staff Rate Per 100 ADP by Institution; (6) Assaults on Inmates Rate Per 100 ADP by Institution; (7) Fatal Injuries or Escapes by Institution CY85-94; and (8) Number of Persons Fatally Injured During Assaults or Escapes 1970-1984.
