There were 6,974 inmate incidents in 1994. Assaults accounted for 4,023, assaults with a weapon numbered 1,837. Drug incidents totaled 1,336 (793 marijuana, 319 opiates, and 224 other drugs). Thirteen male inmates were fatally assaulted, two were stabbed to death. There were 1,603 assaults on staff, 710 involving the use of weapons by inmates.
