This compilation of articles deals with concepts of community justice and specifically discusses community policing, restorative justice, probation, risk assessment, and community supervision.
Abstract
The first article considers the need for a new community justice paradigm, one that focuses on crime prevention and collaboration rather than on the criminal and that builds on a systems approach. The second article reviews lessons learned from community policing, with emphasis on limitations of traditional policing, principles of community policing, and the value of a holistic policing approach. The third article covers the restorative justice concept in corrections and benefits of this approach to victims. Other articles examine correctional reform, activities of the Community Corrections Improvement Association, clients served by community probation, restorative justice progress made in Vermont, and the role of risk assessment in community-based corrections.
