These four public service announcements present dialogues and scenarios intended to prevent children and youth from using drugs and to educate parents about their role in drug prevention.
Abstract
The first announcement depicts a young girl who is answering questions about what to do if a stranger talks to her or what to do about playing with matches. She answers the questions and says that her mother told her answers. The questioner asks the child what her mother told her about drugs. The child is silent. The narrator then speaks to parents and tells them that their children are listening. The second announcement depicts children on a playground. Older children approach and ask what they need. The children respond that they need to graduate, find a job, have good health, and have friends. The third announcement portrays a young woman who speaks with slurred speech. Photographs and text note that she was her high school class president, an art director at age 24, and a heroin addict at age 28. The final announcement focuses on preventing glue or inhalant sniffing by portraying water rushing into a girl's bedroom and giving her the feeling of drowning. The narrator notes that sniffing can cause brain damage and death.
