The Bureau of Justice Assistance has provided funding to the center as a model program for possible replication by other States. The center works with students to involve them as part of the solution to school violence. It also informs local government officials, school boards, PTAs, law enforcement groups, civic organizations, and professional organizations and encourages the development of collaborations. Center staff make site visits to develop information on promising practices and successful programs. It offers a toll-free telephone line for individuals or groups seeking information. A partnership with the University of North Carolina took effect on July 1, 1995 and will allow the center to take advantage of the university's statewide resources and to improve coordination of initiatives to address school violence.
