Abstract
The opening section of this guide describes publications and videos produced by various organizations concerned with community action against drugs. Originators include Join Together, National Association of Neighbors, and California Department of Education. The summaries, which include data on target audiences, availability, format, and readability, discuss alcohol and other drug prevention, intervention and treatment, and community prevention activities. A section on studies, articles, and reports for community action describes: a model for preventing alcohol/drug problems in inner-city communities; community-based AIDS prevention; community efforts to reduce the spread of AIDS associated with intravenous drug abuse; preventing alcohol and drug abuse in black communities; family, friends and neighbors as primary groups in preventing the misuse of drugs; alcoholism prevention and treatment among Native American youth; evaluation of prevention programs; problem indicators; and other aspects of community action. Twenty-one organizations and programs for community action are listed with addresses and telephone numbers.
