Tourism is a social and economic phenomenon affecting the criminal situation in Budapest, Hungary.
Abstract
Places preferred by tourists provide excellent hunting grounds for criminals, since tourists are preoccupied with the sights rather than with their valuables. A scientific approach may contribute to crime prevention with precise regional prognoses, based on a study of one Budapest district, and may apply to the city as a whole. Such an approach can be used to identify problem areas requiring more police attention due to the large number of tourists and high victimization factors. 18 references, 3 tables, and 5 figures
