The Alabama Unified Judicial System is a State-funded court system that consists of the Supreme Court and two intermediate courts of appeal, the Court of Civil Appeals and the Court of Criminal Appeals; the trial courts of general jurisdiction, the circuit courts; and the courts of limited jurisdiction, the district courts, the probate courts, and the municipal courts. This report summarizes the functions and personnel of each of these courts and provides statistical data on filings, dispositions, and time standards. Reports on the activities of court organizations encompass the Judicial Inquiry Commission, the Court of the Judiciary, the Judicial Compensation Commission, and the Judicial Study Commission. Reports are also provided on the various activities and achievements of the divisions of the Administrative Office of Courts, which is charged with providing the centralized, State-level administrative support necessary for the operation of the State's court system; the development of improved procedures and systems to increase the operational capacity of the courts; and the collection and dissemination of the information necessary for the development of policy to promote more efficient operation of the courts. Also included in this report are Supreme Court rules, legislative acts pertinent to the courts, judicial rosters, and judicial statistics. The latter address caseloads for the circuit court, district court, and municipal court. Statistics also pertain to the Capital Case Reporting System, juries, and the Fair Trial Tax Fund.
