This report provides an overview of the 36,997 juvenile court dispositions in Pennsylvania during 1995 and summarizes information provided by county juvenile probation departments.
Abstract
The youths included 30,646 males and 6,309 females. Probation was used in 23.1 percent of the dispositions, followed by informal adjustment (15.6 percent), placement (11.4 percent), consent decrees (9.5 percent), complaint withdrawn (8.4 percent), warned/counseled (8 percent), and dismissed not substantiated (6.9 percent). The remaining dispositions amounted to 17 percent of the dispositions. Approximately 1 percent of the total were transferred to criminal court. Delinquency dispositions increased by 4.1 percent from 1994 to 1995. The median number of days from the date of referral to the date of disposition was 71.0. The State experienced 10,724 admissions to secure detention. Almost 27 percent were released at or before the 72-hour hearing. Admissions increased in 36 counties and decreased in 24 counties.
