The Sourcebook brings together in a single volume nationwide data of interest to the criminal justice community.
Abstract
This book is divided into six sections: (1) characteristics of the criminal justice systems, including data on the number and types of criminal justice agencies and employees, criminal justice expenditures and workload of agency employees; (2) public attitudes toward crime and criminal justice-related topics, including the results of nationwide public opinion polls on a variety of topics; (3) nature and distribution of known offenses, data from several indicators of the extent of illegal activities; (4) characteristics and distribution of persons arrested, proportions of known crimes cleared by arrests, counts of illegal goods and assets seized; (5) judicial processing of defendants, including characteristics, dispositions and sentences; and (6) persons under correctional supervision (on probation or parole, in local jails), and offenders executed and currently under sentence of death.
