Most of the data are current through 1994, the most recent year for which complete and official data are available for all of the agencies. In some cases, references are made to preliminary data for 1995. The data show 5-year and 10-year trends and are presented in an order that parallels the flow of cases through the criminal justice system from reported offenses to corrections and parole. Information on juvenile justice trends is included, along with descriptions of the criminal and juvenile justice processes. Although there is little statistical information available on domestic violence and gangs, the report includes special segments on these topics. The domestic violence section discusses the recently enacted Mandatory Arrest Law and the efforts of the justice system to improve its handling of domestic-violence cases. The section on gangs describes some of the role of gangs in street crime, particularly among juveniles, along with the efforts of the police and prison system to document and investigate gang-related activity. The law enforcement section of the report contains information on reported crime, adult arrests, and arrestee characteristics. Data that pertain to prosecutions and convictions by type of offense are presented in the section on courts. In the corrections section of the report, data are provided on the average daily population of the correctional facilities and incarceration rates. The section on parole reports data for grants and revocations. The juvenile justice section of the report includes data on juvenile arrests, prosecutions and dispositions, juvenile drug use, and a profile of juvenile arrestees.
