Abstract
The text notes that nearly 70 percent of current users of illicit drugs are employed. Model policies and programs are available to enable employers to initiate programs at almost no cost. Employers are advised to plan their programs by talking to employees and supervisors about the benefits of a drug-free workplace, listen to employees' ideas, consider the resources available and decide on the type of program to offer, write their policy and print it on the company letterhead, distribute the policy to all employees, educate employees about the program, and post notifications of the program. Lists of national, State, and local resources; a parent's reference card about preventing alcohol use by adolescents, and order form
