This report provides statistical data on institutionalized and parole populations in California as of June 1996 and on monthly prison and parole populations for the period between June 1995 and June 1996.
Abstract
The data show 122,514 and 131,273 male inmates were incarcerated as of June 1995 and June 1996, respectively; corresponding figures for female inmates were 8,818 and 9,744. A total of 11,918 inmates were received and 10,963 were released as of June 1995; 11,847 were received and 12,106 were released as of June 1996. Detailed data are tabulated on inmate arrivals, transfers, and departures; inmate admission and return status by institution; ethnic characteristics of inmates; and commitment type. Parole population movement data show a total of 98,013 parolees at the end of June 1996. Between June 1995 and June 1996, the number of male parolees increased from 83,048 to 88,710; corresponding figures for female inmates were 8,408 and 9,303. A total of 10,353 parolees were received and 9,280 were released as of June 1995; 11,422 were received and 9,451 were released as of June 1996. Tables
