The program features the use of a 26-minute videotape entitled, "Portraits of Domestic Abuse: Breaking the Cycle," and a 24-page user's manual. The videotape portrays the stories of three men who have been domestic abusers and who want to change their abusive behavior. The men participate in an aggression counseling group for abusive men, in which they learn how to resolve conflict and anger in nonviolent, nonabusive ways. The short-term goal of the program is to provide an introductory educational opportunity for male inmates, primarily sentenced inmates, in the Dane County Jail who have been involved in domestic abuse incidents, whether or not domestic violence was the specific offense for which they were jailed. The midrange project goal is to encourage participation of inmates in domestic abuse treatment programming in the community after they leave jail. The long-range goal is to minimize the incidence of domestic violence in Dane County. The program's future directions are also discussed in this article.
