The division received 1,291 court-committed youths during the year, a slight decrease from the previous year. Eighty-five percent of the committed youths were males; the average age of all committed youths was 15 years. The youths had attained an average of 8.8 years of schooling. Fifty-four percent of all commitments were from single-parent homes. Ninety percent of all discharges from the division's custody were satisfactory. In addition, a significant increase in funding for juvenile court diversion resulted in the State's juvenile courts' serving approximately 1,900 additional youths and diverting approximately 600 more youths. Examples of funded projects included family therapy, intensive supervision, counseling services, day treatment, and victim compensation. The division also served many non-committed youths in its day treatment and interstate compact programs. In addition, the division completed site selection for eight new residential facilities with 240 residential beds, an increase of approximately 50 percent in the division's residential capacity.
